O2 has a long-standing commercial partnership with Arsenal Football Club, dating back to 2002.

It was previously Arsenal's shirt sponsor and is now coming into the final year of a multimillion-pound mobile deal with the club.

Reports today (Friday) suggested that O2 was ready to ditch its football deal and concentrate on rugby, because of the unsavoury behaviour of some Premier League stars.

O2 is also a sponsor of the England rugby team.

However, a spokesman for O2 said the mobile operator had no plans to move out of football.

He said that O2 would review any sponsorship deal that was drawing to a close, as it would be doing with Arsenal.

The spokesman said: "We remain committed to our partnership with Arsenal" and added: "Recent comments in the media have been taken out of context and do not represent our feelings towards Arsenal or football in general."
