NTL in talks with former UBM chief Wall for post-merger role

LONDON - Malcolm Wall, former chief operating officer of United Business Media, is being courted by NTL to head a new division.

The Sunday Times reports that Wall is in advanced talks with NTL to take on the role of chief executive at a content division that would incorporate Telewest's Flextech, owner of channels including Bravo and Living TV. NTL is in the process of merging with Telewest.

Wall left UBM last March after being passed over for the top job for Symbian chief executive David Levin in the race to replace Lord Clive Hollick.

Wall had been chief operating officer at UBM since January 2001 and before that was chief executive officer of United's television interests since 1992.

As well as its Telewest merger, NTL is in the process of taking over Virgin Mobile in a £920m deal that will create the UK's only "quadruple-play" provider, combining NTL's TV, broadband and telephony offering with the mobile network.
