The campaign, entitled 'An hour without power', will promote the energy company's schools sustainability programme, 'Climate Cops'.

TV presenter Morgan will appear in a print ad aimed at persuading consumers to switch off their electrical appliances and instead play family games that do not require the use of power.

The campaign, created by ad agency VCCP, will look to encourage children to take part, while Piers Morgan plays the role of an annoying Dad.

Morgan, a journalist turned outspoken TV host, will be shown playing board games with children. Ads will carry the line 'Frustrating, difficult, taxing - the game, that is '.

Several other celebrities, including TV presenter Fearne Cotton, have made personal appearances to promote the 'Climate Cops' programme.

In August, Npower marketing director Kevin Peake consolidated the energy company's £15m advertising accounts into VCCP.

The utilities company's advertising was previously handled by Beattie McGuinness Bungay, with its direct account held by EHS Brann.

Earlier this year, Morgan appeared in a Burger King campaign promoting its 'Flame grill'-scented perfume.
