Nokia kicks off mobile art project

LONDON - Nokia is launching a nationwide art exhibition with a mobile social networking twist, as it opens its first flagship store on Regent Street, London.

The hub of Meet London, which aims to create the biggest ever portrait of London as seen by its residents, is .

Londoners are encouraged to introduce a friend, via a mobile phone portrait made up of text and images, to the city.  Once introduced, the chosen friend then introduces their connection, and so on, creating a chain of unique portraits.   

Spearheaded by rap lyricist Dizzee Rascal, actress Jaime Winstone, footballer Darren Bent, and celebrity photographer Rankin, the four portrait chains are representative of the different social networks and influences which inform each of the artists and their work.

Each portrait chain will shows the artists' connection with London, through the relationships that shape their communities.

Members of the public are encouraged to take part by introducing a friend via the campaign website or via Bluetooth in the new Nokia flagship store. As well as being displayed online, a selection of images will also be displayed in-store.

Nokia hopes to encourage over 5,000 Londoners to take part in the initiative.

Cliff Crosbie, head of retail marketing, Nokia said: "These films demonstrate that mobile phones are now central to our lives, relationships and community. This unique look into people's personal connection offers an insight into what London means for many of us.
