Negotiated by Manning Gottlieb OMD, the deal is to promote the Nissan Navara and includes sponsorship of a number of action shows including Discovery's Born Survivor: Bear Grylls (pictured) and Five's Ice Road Truckers.
The agreement also includes Sky One's Ross Kemp on Gangs show, which is also aired on Sky One HD, five TV shows on the Discovery Channel and DMAX, including World's Toughest Tribes and Elite Forces.
Nissan's nine-month deal with Discovery, which is the biggest so far for the channel, includes a take-over of Discovery's adventure-themed web page at discovery.co.uk.
The car manufacturer will also run a competition on the channel to give away a Nissan Navara.
The activity will kick off on Saturday (30 August).
The sponsorship activity on Five will commence in January next year ,while the Sky One deal kicks off in September.
Nissan's advertising manager David Jackson said that the deal was struck because the adventure theme of the TV shows involved "mirrors the attitude of our core Navara audience".
Andrew Grieve, head of advertising sales at Discovery Networks UK, said that Discovery shows such as Bear Grylls and Deadliest Catch would bring comple- mentary audiences to the Nissan Navara.
Nick Milligan, managing director for Sky Media, said the deal underlines the strength of Sky 1 and Sky 2 and the value of its investment in own-commissioned content.
