Nick Jr to premiere gender-specific children's programming

LONDON - Nickelodeon's children's TV network Nick Jr is to introduce girl- and boy-specific scheduling with the launch of Nick Jr 2 next week.

The new channel, which is aimed at kids under the age of six, will offer up schedules appealing to young boys and girls. Nick Jr 2 is not a plus one service, but will give the opportunity for children to watch more of their favourite programmes screened on Nick Jr straight afterwards on the new channel much in the same way that E4 allows viewers to switch straight ot E4+1 to see the next episode.

Nickelodeon, says Nick Jr 2 will feature all of its hit shows, including 'Dora the Explorer', 'Bob the Builder' and 'Lazytown'. It will be available on Sky channel 623, when it debuts next month.

Viacom Brand Solutions, which represents all of Viacom's channels including MTV, VH1, Paramount Comedy and Nickelodeon, has booked ads in preparation for the channel's launch.

Nick Bampton, managing director at Viacom Brand Solutions, said: "Pre-school programming is one of Nickelodeon's greatest strengths.

"Nick Jr 2 will build on the Nick Jr brand by giving our viewers more choice and more chances to join in with their favourite shows."
