Rob Painter has been promoted to the role of NI portfolio, strategy and planning director. Painter was previously working as insight director, after taking over from Katie Vanneck when she was promoted to managing director of customer direct last August.

In his new role Painter will be responsible for identifying and developing opportunities that go across the NI titles as opposed to exploring opportunities for the company's titles separately. He will focus on events such as the World Cup, the Olympics and the general election, creating tailored opportunities and products. He will also work to better exploit the relationship with NI's sister company News Corp which owns the Sky and Fox brands.

Mark Goodison will take over Painter's previous role as NI insight director. He has worked at the company for eight years in the strategic planning unit and more recently heading up insight across separate parts of the group.

Martin Pierson has been promoted to creative director within media at NI. He will head up a new centralised creative department, designed to create and execute advertising campaigns in-house across print and online for marketing, customer and some areas of commercial marketing.

Pierson began his career at NI in the commercial department developing creative advertising campaigns for NI brands and partners such as British Airways and Ford. Since then he has led a team designing campaigns for The Times and The Sunday Times both in print and online as well as poster and press campaigns for thelondonpaper and more recently The Sun and News of the World.

Alex Lewis, former director of marketing for the BSkyB network, was appointed to the role of marketing director for The Times and The Sunday Times in July. She also reports to Schwartz in her role.
