Brooks is a founder member of Women in Journalism, an organisation created in response to a demand for women to be more effectively represented at senior level in newspapers and magazines.

Previous recipients of the fellowship include former Times editor Sir Harold Evans, former Guardian Media Group chief executive Sir Robert Phillis and BBH co-founder Sir John Hegarty.
