News International is expected to begin a round of redundancies across its 380-strong commercial division from as early as next month.

The move forms part of an initiative started by former chief executive Rebekah Brooks, placed on hold during the crisis that engulfed the News of the World last month.

New chief executive Tom Mockridge is expected to kick-start the planned restructure in September although News International officials were unable to confirm whether a decision had been made.

Among those believed to be in the firing line include Paul Hayes' team of commercial directors Dominic Carter, David German, Alex Hole, Neil Jones, Patricia Kill, Claire Myerscough, Abba Newbery and Sandra Tinker.



News International Commercial was formed through the . It marked the first time in the UK that a newspaper publisher has merged its sales operation to cover both the audience of a broadsheet and red-top tabloid.

At the time of the restructure, with the remaining positioned into agency-focused hubs.

Hayes oversaw the last restructure with a view to improving relations with agencies. Part of this process involved hiring , and , into his new team of directors.
