NEWS: BT and MCI upgrade network to ease UK access to Internet

BT and its US partner, MCI, are set to put an end to Internet bottle necks with the launch of the world’s largest Internet network.

BT and its US partner, MCI, are set to put an end to Internet bottle

necks with the launch of the world’s largest Internet network.

The two claim that the new network will increase the capacity of the

existing, and congested, Internet by as much as 30 per cent.

The BT and MCI network will not replace anything but will allow those

already using the Internet to send or access information faster.

The telecoms giants will provide a high-speed network, which combines

existing Internet networks and a number of planned new ones.

This will radically alter the lot of UK users who attempt to access

information on the US-centric computer network. Currently, lengthy

delays are an everyday occurrence, even when talking to computers in

France or Germany. At the moment UK users are likely to be routed

through the US before getting to where they want to be.
