New York's Thanksgiving parade is 'Rickrolled'

NEW YORK - The cult of 'Rickrolling' shows no signs of dying out after Rick Astley himself interrupted the proceedings at yesterday's Macy's Thanksgiving Parade in New York with a rendition of his 80s hit, 'Never Gonna Give You Up'.

The crooner made a surprise appearance on the Cartoon Network's float, which was part of a Thanksgiving procession and played the music from one of its kids' shows.

The cheesy music was suddenly interrupted by the even cheesier chimes of Rick Astley's 80s hit, with the singer himself bursting onto the float to perform.

The Lancastrian pop singer's career is facing something of a revival thanks to the proliferation of the online prank known as 'Rickrolling'.

He was recently awarded the best music act in the world ever at the MTV Europe Music Awards by an online vote. However, the producers behind the awards admitted that they had been "well and truly Rickrolled".

Rickrolling is a stunt in which users are tricked into clicking onto an internet link, which then takes them to a video on YouTube of 'Never Gonna Give You Up'. Since the stunt started, the video has been watched more than 20m times.
