The shop, which is reportedly the largest bookshop in the UK, opened on Saturday (7 June). To celebrate the opening, the retailer has planned its Grand Opening Festival that will run until 4 July.
A formal opening of each book department will be undertaken by a celebrity author. Big names on the line-up include Pulp frontman Jarvis Cocker opening the music department, film critic Mark Kermode launching the film and theatre section and actor and TV presenter Michael Palin, who will open the travel area.
The fifth-floor gallery has been programmed in partnership with art agency Furturecity, and the café and catering will be operated by Leafi. Smoked duck, vodka and beetroot smoked salmon and walnut crostinis are all on the canapés menu for private events.
Talks and musical events can also be held in the 200-seater auditorium at Foyles. The development is part of an anticipated gentrification of the Soho and Charing Cross Road area.
Sam Husain, chief executive of Foyles, said: "The opening of Foyles 107 Charing Cross Road is a hugely significant moment for us all. It is a sign of confidence in the future of the printed word and has given us the opportunity to think long and hard about what a bookshop in the 21st century should offer.
"It’s about discoverability, a chance to interact with authors and artists, to listen to great music in one of our many performance spaces and forging partnerships right across the cultural sector."
