The campaign, launched by the mayor's office and London police, will appear in posters, on the Underground and buses. Ads will appear in toilets in pubs and clubs, and 1m postcards will be distributed, also in the capital's pubs and clubs.
The campaign comes following the news that in the past 12 months, 214 women have been assaulted after getting into illegal minicabs -- the kind that have no licence or any connection to a licensed minicab office.
A concerted PR push is highlighting safer ways for Londoners to get home, promoting the expanded night bus network and the fact that there are now more black cabs operating late at night.
Ken Livingstone, mayor of London, said: "The number of assaults connected with illegal minicabs is shocking. Londoners need to be aware of the risk they are taking if they take an illegal minicab off the street. This campaign is all about increasing safe choices for women."
