The contract, which was announced today (2 September), will be managed by Network Rail Property. It begins on 1 October, and was won following a ‘fully competitive’ tender process.
The news indicates Network Rail’s aim to transform its stations into destinations in their own right. Spaceandpeople will support this goal by providing brands with space to host consumer experiences in these high footfall areas.
Experiential campaigns will be hosted at Network Rail stations such as London Kings Cross, Euston, Waterloo, Victoria, Cardiff, Glasgow and Manchester Piccaddilly. Network Rail estimates its 18 destinations are used by almost one billion people each year.
Spaceandpeople has previously worked with brands such as Tesco, Coca-Cola, Jaguar and Microsoft.
Hamish Kiernan, retail director at Network Rail, said: "We want to create truly exceptional places for passengers and visitors, and as part of this aspire to bring a sense of theatre and interactivity to our stations. Spaceandpeople has unparalleled experience in creating experiential campaigns in high footfall places, and therefore we saw them as natural partner to help us meet this objective."
Matthew Bending, chief executive of SpaceandPeople, added: "Network Rail Stations are evolving into destination locations in their own right and, as such, offer perfect opportunities for brands to deliver experiential solutions. We are excited at the prospect of working with our Network Rail colleagues to deliver engaging brand events which will delight and entertain their customers."
