The direct marketing industry will be out in force for the second time this year at its biggest autumn event, The National Direct Marketing Show (NDMS), which comes to the Birmingham NEC on 14-16 September. For those marketers seeking to incorporate digital, the event will cover burning issues including email and the internet, how to combat spam, customer relationship management, field marketing and response handling.
Held over three days, the free show, organised by Reed Exhibitions - which mounted London's International Direct Marketing Fair this year - is backed by industry body, The Direct Marketing Association. It provides marketers with the chance to explore the latest direct marketing innovations, meet suppliers and network with peers.
The event runs alongside two other free shows - the National Incentive Show and the National Venue Show. Last year, the event trio attracted 8,000 visitors and some 56 exhibitors were on hand to offer advice and contacts. Similar numbers are expected this year. A packed seminar programme over the three days includes keynote sessions and case study talks providing a view of DM in business - triumphs, challenges, warts and all.
This year's sessions to bookmark include the Saga Holidays story and the Salvation Army's multimedia DM campaign.
Malcolm Whitmarsh, Reed Exhibitions' marketing industry director, says: "I get very fed up when people pigeonhole direct marketing. It contains endless mechanisms. But all methods come back to cost-per-page ads or letters through the post and email is part of this. E-marketing has its place alongside all the other methods of DM."
