NatMags hands chief executive role to Duncan Edwards

LONDON - The National Magazine Company has given managing director Duncan Edwards the additional role of chief executive of the publishing company, the home of Esquire and Harpers & Queen.

Edwards has overseen the move of NatMags from its roots in the glossy monthly market into the weekly market, with the £10m launch of Reveal magazine after a joint venture deal with Australian Consolidated Press. He also shut the company's customer publishing division because the profit margins were too low.

Victor Ganzi, president and chief executive of the Hearst Corporation, which owns NatMags, said: "The National Magazine Company has grown tremendously over the last few years as a result of acquisitions, joint ventures and new launches.

"This additional title is a reflection of the reality of what Duncan has been doing and is appropriate given the size and complexity of the business."

Edwards was promoted from deputy managing director to managing director at NatMags in December 2001. Terry Mansfield was the last chief executive at NatMags, but he retired from the company in December 2003.

At the same time, Hearst said that group finance officer Simon Horne was also taking on the title of general manager -- a move the company said would more accurately reflect his role at the company.

NatMags' titles include Cosmopolitan, Good Housekeeping and Country Living. It publishes Best and Reveal through its ACP joint venture, and Men's Health and Runner's World in a joint venture with Rodale.
