
The publisher of titles such as Harper's Bazaar, Good Housekeeping and Cosmopolitan, generated revenue of £297m, down from £344m in 2008.
In 2009 the company made a pre-tax profit of £1.3m compared with a pre-tax loss of £42.8m in 2008.
The 2008 loss was due to an impairment review that resulted in impairment losses of £55.7m.
NatMag-Rodale, a 50:50 joint venture founded in 2004 between The National Magazine Company and Rodale International in the US, contributed £7.9 million to NatMag's overall revenue in 2009 compared to £8.5 million in 2008.
NatMag's share of pre-tax profits from NatMag-Rodale, which publishes Men's Health, was £2.3 million compared to £2.4 million the year before.
The NatMag director's report said an uncertain advertising market was a principal risk to the publisher during the recession, but "the mixed portfolio of magazines and diversification into digital publishing limits the exposure to risk".
As well as its print titles, NatMag produces the umbrella website All About You for its brands She, Good Housekeeping, Prima, Coast, Country Living and House Beautiful. It also publishes the fashion and beauty website .
The average monthly circulation of NatMag's monthly magazines for the six-month period ending December 2009 was 3,148,336, an increase of 1.24% on the same period the year before. The group's net asset position at year-end decreased from £20.6m to £19.8m
