Nando's sauces get a new look in time for BBQ season

LONDON - Nando's is hoping to capitalise on a summer of barbecues with a redesign of its range of condiments, including the spicy Peri-Peri sauce.

The rebrand has been initiated by The Grocery Company, which specialises in taking restaurant brands and creating products for supermarkets.

New packaging across the range of Nando's marinades, sauces and dips will be rolled out, starting this week.

The redesign, handled by South African agency Cross Colours, which has a long relationship with Nando's. It increases the emphasis on Nando's unique ingredient, Peri-Peri. The heat of the product is communicated through a more obvious Peri-ometer and on the bottleneck collar.

Peri-Peri is made from lemons, spices, garlic and African birds eye chillies.

Ben Johnson, marketing director at The Grocery Company, said: "Packaging is possibly the most effective advertising message and therefore is critical to clearly communicate Nando's point of difference.

"We are expecting a bumper summer this year as the weather is predicted to be hot and occasions such as the World Cup are likely to see an increase in barbecuing."

The Grocery Company is also behind the Cranks cookery books and ready-made salads and sandwiches.
