LONDON - Gatwick Airport has appointed Naked Communications and Mindshare to handle a £5 million summer 2009 campaign ahead of its sale later this year.

Naked Communications will handle the creative duties for the campaign following a five-way pitch. Mindshare will be responsible for media planning and buying.

Gatwick Airport called a pitch for its ad account in May following the Competition Commission's order in March that BAA Airports must sell the property. The independent summer campaign will be separate to BAA Airports' advertising activity.

The incumbents on the BAA Airports account, Delaney Lund Knox Warren and Carat, are unaffected by the appointment. Neither agency pitched for the account.

The multimedia campaign will promote Gatwick Airport's retail, catering and car-parking amenities to passengers. It will kick-off in mid-June, running on- and off-airport, with a strong regional focus.

Although the sale of Gatwick Airport is underway, this week BAA Airports confirmed that it would challenge the Competition Commission's ruling.
