The campaign, entitled ‘You are here', consists of historic images of London from the museum's art and photographic collections, showcasing both ordinary and significant moments in the capital over the past 350 years.
Print and outdoor ads, by creative agency NB: Studio, will run throughout London from Monday 10 May, while Oyster card wallets depicting Londoners seeking shelter in the Elephant & Castle Underground station during World War II, will be handed out to commuters.
A Museum of London iPhone app, designed by Brothers and Sisters, will also roll out next week. The app guides users to sites across London where they can view more than 200 images from the Museum's collections. A 3D installation will be unveiled in Trafalgar Square on 10 May to mark the launch of the app.
Vicky Lee, marketing manager at the Museum of London, said: "The launch of our new galleries provides us with the opportunity to reposition the Museum of London as a modern museum, with London's contemporary identity as a vibrant world city at its heart."
