Muji's first store outside of Japan opened in London's Liberty department store in 1991, introducing a new Japanese minimalism to Europe. The brand will celebrate the 25th anniversary milestone by teaming up with Produce UK to exhibit a set of never-seen-before Muji posters. Taking place in Covent Garden's St Martin’s Courtyard, the exhibiiton will resemble an open store front and will be free to the public for six days.
The 25 posters aim to show the brand's trajectory and development. Each poster represents a different time period, and may act as a social commentary or time-specific advertising campaign.
Catherine Borowski, managing director at Produce UK, said: "The exhibition showcases how much the Muji brand has developed in a very creative and engaging way, and we’re really looking forward to opening the doors to the public to see their reaction."
In addition, vistors will have access to the #myMuji photobooth, where they will be able to have a photo taken with a poster of their choice. After their stint in London, the 25 posters will be moved to Milan, Italy for in in-store exhibition.
Guests will be able to view the posters from 19-23 October, 10am-7pm.
