MTV fly-on-the-wall rock documentary nears its finale

LONDON - MTV's fly-on-the-wall rockumentary 'Breaking Point', chronicling the attempt by four young bands to make it in the music industry, is nearing its finale.

The series began with Island Record's A&R men embarking on a global search for unsigned talented bands. Nine were originally chosen, now whittled down to four who are set to release their debut singles on July 14.

Viewers have followed the four through their recording sessions, video shoots and first brushes with the media.

The four bands are London quartet Portobella, who have already attracted attention from the likes of Pete Tong. Their debut single is the pop-punk tune 'Covered in Punk'. Next up is Tokyo Dragons, another London-based band, who release 'Teenage Screamers', described as a Saturday-night's-all-right-for-fighting riot of a tune produced and mixed by Pedro Ferreira, who has also produced tracks for The Darkness.

The third band is The Holiday Plan, another London outfit, this time from Hackney, who will be releasing a double A-side single called 'Stories'/'Sunshine'. Last is Foolproof from Orange County, who will be releasing 'Paper House', described as an infectious mix of driving guitars and urgent rhythms.

After the release of the singles, Island Records will reflect on their performances over the past two hectic months and decide who will and won't be signed.
