LONDON (Brand Republic) - Microsoft鈥檚 portal MSN has widened its lead over Yahoo! in the UK, according to the latest figures from internet audience measurement firm Jupiter MMXI.
The figures for February 2001 show MSN.com has 40.5% reach in the UK, compared with Yahoo.com鈥檚 33.9%, and while Yahoo!鈥檚 number of unique visitors has remained unchanged since December at 4.6m, MSN鈥檚 has increased by 100,000 a month to 5.5m in February.
MSN.com is the most popular domain in the UK, followed by Yahoo.com, then Freeserve.net and Microsoft.com. The UK sites MSN.co.uk and Yahoo.co.uk are at number five and seven respectively.
Yahoo!鈥檚 share price closed at $13.56 (£9.46) on Friday, its lowest closing price since June 1998. Almost two weeks ago, the company said its earnings would fall short of forecasts and Tim Koogle resigned as CEO. At their peak about a year ago, shares were trading at as much as $200 (£139.59).
