MSN confirms second Cannes sponsorship

LONDON - Following on from its huge success last year, MSN is proud to announce its second year of sponsorship of the Cannes Lions International Advertising Festival, taking place from June 15-21 and celebrating its 50th anniversary this year.

MSN's involvement includes exclusive sponsorship of two awards and the festival's Cyber Lounge facility, plus a seminar presentation, in association with Tribal DDB.

Last year heralded a groundbreaking presence at the festival for MSN as its first major sponsorship of an international advertising event. At the MSN seminar, delegates heard about the pivotal role digital media will play in future award winning advertising campaigns because of its ability to engage directly with consumers. The event also allowed industry attendees to learn more about the diversity of opportunities opening up for digital marketing.

This year, as the exclusive sponsor of the Cyber Lions awards 2003, for a second successive year MSN will honour creative excellence and champion the power of online media. Recognising the vital role of online as a complimentary medium in contemporary and future ad campaigns, MSN will also sponsor the Best Use of Integrated Media category in the festival's Media Lions awards for a second time. Last year's winner was Universal McCann in Sydney for their Magnum 7 Deadly Sins campaign for Unilever. The sponsorships underline MSN's corporate commitment to advancing the state of the art in digital marketing.

Through MSN's Cyber Lounge, to be constructed again in the centre of the festival's exhibition area, MSN will bring useful and entertaining Internet services to the heart of each delegate's experience. Additionally, delegates will see a glimpse of MSN's vision for the future -- to empower people in their personal lives to realise their potential by bringing them closer to the people and information that matters most.

In conjunction with Tribal DDB, MSN will also host a seminar entitled 'Where Technology & Creativity Meet'' which will underline the evolution of the medium, including its creative potential, and will also highlight the new software and hardware developments that are ensuring online's continual evolution.

Judy Gibbons, vice-president of MSN EMEA, said: "We are delighted to be sponsoring the Cannes Lions again, especially in this their 50th anniversary year. We came last year not knowing what reaction to expect from the delegates and in fact we were overwhelmed by requests for information about the various opportunities opening up for digital marketing."

She added: "At MSN, our leading consumer internet services like Hotmail and Messenger mean we have a unique understanding of online consumer behaviour which puts us in the best position to show creatives the potential role it can play for them in the future."
