The Birmingham Post enjoyed a slight increase in circulation to 12,685 in the first six months of 2007, 1.08% up on the comparative period last year.
Its improved performance follows a redesign in April and the launch of a series of high quality and lifestyle supplements.
Stablemate the Birmingham Mail saw sales slide 5.98% year on year to 71,255. However, the latest figures suggested the decline had slowed – sales in the same period last year were 17.1% down on 2005. Editor Steve Dyson said readers had responded well to an improved mix of detailed local editions, strong campaigning and sports coverage.
In Liverpool sales of the Daily Post dropped by almost 10.52% to 15,980, although this was offset by the growth of its free edition. The paper operates a hybrid distribution model in which an additional 6,406 copies are given away free in the city centre.
Editor Mark Thomas said the free copies had extended the paper’s reach among ABC1 readers and in the 25 to 44 year old age group.
