Microsoft Windows spoof reaches mass audience

LONDON - A UK-made spoof of the much derided Windows 7 launch party video has had nearly 200,000 views since launching on the same day as Microsoft's new operating system.

The , encouraged people to gather their friends and family together and host a party to mark the launch of Windows 7.

The spoof version, produced by , features a similar set of characters hosting a party torrenting party - that is, illegally downloading the Windows 7 software. Unlike the original version, it is interrupted by the kitchen's owner, played by Daniel Maier, unexpectedly turning up, giving rise to the spoof's best line:


It was written by The Dawson Bros, a comedy writing team who have worked on shows including 'That Mitchell & Webb Look' and 'The Kevin Bishop Show'.

The much maligned Windows 7 pre-launch campaign did not harm sales of the operating system, with Amazon reporting that it was the most pre-ordered item in its history, surpassing previous record holder Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.

Bit.torrent site The Pirate Bay shows, however, that Microsoft Windows 7 is the fourth-most torrented item at the moment.
