Martin-Cruz joined Microsoft in October 2010 from Samsung, where he was European group marketing director. It is not known whether Martin-Cruz or Masters have jobs to go to.

As Marketing recently revealed, Microsoft merged its consumer and online division with its central marketing group as part of a global restructure, to form the marketing and operations division, led by Scott Dodds.

Microsoft is still seeking a chief marketing officer for the division. Masters and Martin-Cruz were thought to be in line for the role.

The marketers' departures follow that of Ashley Highfield, managing director of consumer and online UK, who is to join Johnston Press as chief executive later this year.

Microsoft declined to comment on the situation.
