The new national edition will be distributed in eight new Spanish cities: Burgos, Salamanca and Valladolid in Castilla-León; Gijón and Oviedo in Asturias; Santander in Cantabria; Pamplona in Navarre and Mallorca in the Balearics.
With this 11th Spanish edition, Metro claims to be the most widely distributed newspaper in Spain covering 67% of the Spanish population.
The new development follows the successful conversion last week of the Barcelona edition into a regional Catalonia edition.
Pelle Tornberg, CEO of Metro International, said: "With the launch of the national edition in Spain, we demonstrate our confidence in the buoyant Spanish market. We are committed to offer our 1.8m daily readers with higher standards of quality and trustworthy news."
