Meek joins Radio Centre as non-executive director

LONDON - Former Ofcom chief policy partner Kip Meek has been appointed by the Radio Centre as non-executive director.

Meek will join the trade body's board, which currently consists of the chief executives of GCap Media, Emap, Chrysalis, UTV, Virgin, Guardian Media Group, Lincs FM and Tindle Radio.

He is the second recent high profile media figure to be appointed to the RadioCentre board following the announcement that former Yahoo! European sales boss Martina King will serve as non-executive director of RadioCentre and chairman of the Radio Advertising Bureau.

Andrew Harrison, chief executive of the RadioCentre, said: "I'm absolutely delighted that Kip has agreed to join us here at RadioCentre. Through his work at Ofcom, he has done an enormous amount of work with the radio sector and his knowledge will be invaluable to us".

Meek said: "It is an exciting time for commercial radio and I hope my experience will be of benefit to Andrew and his team to help shape an exciting future for commercial radio in the digital age."

Meek joined Ofcom in April 2003, where he was initially senior partner for content and competition working closely with Stephen Carter, Ofcom's first chief executive, merging the then five existing regulators into a single organisation.

In 2005, he was appointed to the position of chief policy officer at the regulator.

Prior to joining Ofcom, Meek was founder and managing director of Spectrum Strategy Consultants, a specialised consultancy advising on major decisions in the media and telecoms industries.

More recently, he joined the Ingenious board as a director and become non-executive chair of the Broadband Stakeholder Group.
