MediaCom wins Deutsche Telekom £245m European task

LONDON - Deutsche Telekom has handed Grey Global Group's MediaCom its £245m European media business, which includes the £21m T-Mobile account in the UK, following a five-country consolidation of the account.

The account includes Germany, where MediaCom was the incumbent agency, as well as the Netherlands, the Czech Republic and Austria.

In the UK, MediaCom has snatched the account from Interpublic Group's Universal McCann, which has recently had a successful run of new-business wins, including the £19m More Th>n account and Hennes & Mauritz.

Brand Republic first reported on the Deutsche Telekom review last month, which also included WPP Group's MindShare.

MediaCom was unavailable for comment but a spokesperson for T-Mobile in the UK confirmed the win.

The move follows a trend for consolidation within the telecoms sector in recent months, with O2 using ZenithOptimedia and France Telecom choosing Initiative Media and Media Planning Group to handle European planning and buying respectively.

The account will be consolidated in MediaCom's Dusseldorf office.
