MediaCom and Carat on shortlist for TUI Travel

WPP's MediaCom and Aegis agency Carat have made it through to the final round of pitching for TUI Travel's £12m media account.

News of the shortlist comes as The Search Works has been hired to handle TUI Travel subsidiary Hotelopia's paid search activity.

MPG, Walker Media and Universal McCann, all media agencies who currently work with TUI Travel's subsidiary brands, have been ruled out of landing the media account.

MPG handles media spend for travel agency Thomson, while Walker Media works on tour operator First Choice. Universal McCann Manchester handles media spend for holiday brochure firm Portland Holidays Direct, which is not included in the review.

Search marketing specialist The Search Works has been appointed to conduct a review of TUI's search activities across European markets and the US, before implementing a new strategy.

More than a quarter of TUI's mainstream holidays are booked online and the company has adopted an approach that gives customers the choice to book online or through agents.
