Media Week 30 under 30: Matthew Breen, MailOnline

What’s something every media industry person should do before they’re 30?

The decision that has given me the greatest learning experience since joining media, was the decision to move from media agency to media owner.  I believe the best way to develop is to learn from those around you and put yourself in to new and unfamiliar surroundings.  I would recommend to others under 30 to test yourself in new roles, to push for and grasp new opportunities, whether that be in your current company or externally.

If you could only take one thing to a desert island, what would you choose and why?

I recently watched Bear Grylls, The Island on Channel 4, so have given quite a lot of thought to this.  Based on the struggles of the participants I would definitely pick a hammock.  Scenes of sleeping on the beach or forest floor, being bitten by every little critter is not something I want to experience.  I also pride myself on being a morning person, so sleep is very important to me.  I would stand a far better chance of thriving, rather than surviving a deserted island after a good nights sleep
