Media: UKTV rebrands factual channels

UKTV will continue its rebranding strategy with the launch of fresh channel identities for its two factual stations early next year.

UKTV People will become Blighty, with UKTV Documentary renamed Eden.

The broadcaster's channel overhaul to date has included last week's launch of Watch, which attracted 100,000 viewers to the first episode of the Richard & Judy Show. UKTV's Drama has been renamed Alibi, and G2 is now Dave.

Eden and Blighty's content will draw on popular BBC series but also include some new commissions. Described as the 'gateway to the greatest shows on earth', Eden will air series such as Planet Earth, Ganges and Superstorm, as well as Tribe and Big Cat Diary.

Blighty will be positioned as a channel that celebrates 'the best of Britain'. It will air shows such as Who Do You Think You Are?, Coast and Trawlermen, as well as the Louis Theroux Meets ... series and its own commissions.

Matthew Littleford, UKTV's controller, said the rebrands were intended to help the broadcaster become the factual television market leader in the pay-TV sector.
