The station's roll-out, which will be the IPC Ignite! title's biggest brand extension, will involve a partnership with DX Media, whose managing director, Sammy Jacob, founded Xfm.
It will offer alternative music 24 hours a day from a studio inside IPC's headquarters, The Blue Fin Building, in Southwark.
NME Radio plans to differentiate itself by focusing on new media. For example, the station and magazine will develop NME Playlists, which will be accessible across a range of media platforms including digital radio and NME website; IPC also plans to secure national distribution for the station.
In addition, the IPC Ignite! sales team will be able to offer NME Radio as part of integrated pitches, allowing brands to advertise across all the NME platforms.
Jacob said the station will give much-needed exposure to new acts, which he claimed tend to get ignored by traditional broadcast media. He added that this will therefore make the radio station more relevant in a fragmented market.
The launch is the latest brand extension by the music magazine, which has launched a music television channel on the Sky platform.
