McIntosh resigns News Group development role

LONDON - Robbie McIntosh, development director at News Group Newspapers, has resigned after a five-and-a-half-year stint at the company.

McIntosh has taken on behind-the-scenes consultancy roles for several internet and mobile companies, and plans to pursue freelance projects for several months before returning to a full-time role.
He said: “I have been part of a revolution in the way that News Group does its advertising business. There has been so much change in the business that we do not have time to take stock and look outside.”
McIntosh left his role at the end of last year and is currently abroad on holiday. He said of his plans: “I would like to pursue a broader business role in a smaller company – ideally something to do with digital.”
Mark Chippendale, ad director at News Group, said that McIntosh’s move was amicable and that it had been by mutual agreement.
He said: “We talked about where we wanted the department to go and it was not where he wanted to go. I suspect he will take on something with a digital bent as he wants to tick that box.
“He developed a good team of strategists here.”
Terence Cassano, who joined News Group in 2005 as a communications strategist, will take up some of McIntosh’s responsibilities as head of strategy and planning. However, he will not become a director at this stage.
Chippendale said that News Group is planning a move to full colour production for The Sun at the end of the month.
He added that the group is also examining full colour moves for the News of the World.
