Created by BBC Broadcast, one of the corporation's commercial arms, the trails air from Monday June 7 across TV, radio and online, promoting the BBC Wimbledon coverage, which will be broadcast live from June 21 to July 4.
The movie analogy introduces the audience to some of the key players and plot lines of Wimbledon to help build excitement and anticipation for the tournament.
McEnroe is a big feature of the BBC's coverage as one of the top members of BBC Sport's commentary team, and his appearance in a BBC Broadcast trail marks the second time he has had such a starring role, having previously been featured two years ago.
Charlie Mawer, executive creative producer at BBC Broadcast, said: "Every year Wimbledon throws up great stories. This year we thought we would let John McEnroe pitch the perfect Wimbledon script."
The promotional trails were created by: creative director Ruth Shabi; TV producer Edel Erickson; the creative team of Charlie Mawer, Ruth Shabi and Ron Scalpello; and director Ron Scalpello.
Earlier this week, BBC Broadcast unveiled work for the Sci-Fi channel in the US. The work was the first for the BBC creative business since it opened its US office earlier this year.
