Matt Brittin takes up top Google UK role as Dennis Woodside moves to US

Matt Brittin, Google's head of direct sales, has been promoted to director of UK operations, replacing Dennis Woodside who is moving to the US business.

Brittin joined Google in January 2007 to run UK direct sales. He will now have oversight of the agency and sales operations teams in the UK, which makes us around 15% of the overall Google business.

Brittin was previously at Trinity Mirror as director of strategy and digital.

Woodside, managing director of the internet giant's operations in the UK and Ireland, is moving to the US to replace Tim Armstrong, who is leaving Google to become chief executive of Time Warner’s AOL family of websites.
