Marston's uses online presence to promote cricket sponsorship

Marston's is promoting its link with the England cricket team through an online summer push to activate its cricket sponsorship deal.

The 'Uncompromising England XI' competition invites cricket fans to Marstonscricketclub.co.uk to create a dream team of past and present cricketers, with prizes including VIP tickets for England vs India at the Brit Oval in August.

Marston's is also boosting the cricket credentials of the site with a free online game, StickCricket. A content deal with All Out Cricket magazine is due to launch in August to create debate among cricket fans, with features such as top 10 cricket moments and cricketing achievements.

The activity is through DLKW, which took over from site developer Elvis in April. It has since launched new content, including a guide to cricket grounds with a Multimap link.

As well as providing an information source, the aim is to leverage an online community by encouraging users to upload local grounds.

An online guide helps users to find their nearest Marston's-serving pub by entering a postcode.

Justin Way, marketing manager, Marston's, said: "Until the last Ashes, Marston's has marketed solely through traditional media. The four-year England deal has raised our brand profile and stature to another level, and we will continue using this digital strategy to target ale-drinking cricket fans."
