Marketing Databasics bought by new investment group

LONDON - David Perkins, the former Wegener DM CEO, has re-emerged as chief executive of an investment vehicle, backed by private equity company Epic, that has bought data analytics company Marketing Databasics.

The holding company is called Indicia Group and is on the lookout for further marketing services companies to buy following Marketing Databasics, its first acquisition.

Marketing Databasics was owned by Capital Communications Group, a call centre and fulfilment company based in Glasgow and Edinburgh.

Its clients include Britannia Building Society, HBOS and Royal & Sun Alliance. The company recently won two Direct Response Intelligence awards for its work for Royal & Sun Alliance.

The management line-up remains as Mark Robinson and Trevor Jones as managing director and consultancy director respectively, with Perkins joining as chairman. Robinson and Jones have stakes in Marketing Databasics and are committed for the long term.

Perkins first met Jones in 1998 when, as chief executive of Carlson Marketing, he outsourced the analytics work for KLM to Marketing Databasics.

Perkins left Carlson in 2001 after nine years and went on to be chief executive of Wegener DM between 2002 and 2005.

The company set up by Epic to acquire Marketing Databasics is Indicia Group, which plans to make further moves in the sector.

Perkins said: "Marketing Databasics will be the foundation of a new group that assists clients in exploiting customer insight in a multi-channel world."

No details about the value of the company or its recent revenues were disclosed.
