The exclusive deal will see the Premiership club's site feature an auction channel, called MU Auctions, which will be accessible from its home page and the Shop@MU e-commerce zone.
Visitors to the channel will be able to access QXL.com auction content as well as special auctions of official Manchester United memorabilia.
QXL.com will split the commission it receives on each completed auction with the club. The companies will also split revenue on advertising sold across the channel. QXL.com will handle the sales.
Lycos UK sells advertising inventory across the rest of the web site as part of a £2 million-plus deal it struck with Manchester United last month (Revolution, 5 June, p3).
To promote the section, Manchester United is to offer David Beckham's training kit and a signed photo for auction. The funds raised will be donated to children's charity Unicef.
"It is important for us to offer our users auctions within an environment that they are comfortable with, said Ben Hatton, director of business development at Manchester United.
"We chose QXL.com as our official auction partner as its co-branding solution suited that objective. The revenue-share model complements our e-commerce strategy."
