Mallett named as editor of Financial Times Asia

LONDON - The Financial Times has named Victor Mallett as editor of the Asian edition of the paper to replace John Ridding, who was last month named chief executive of the title in the region.

Mallett, currently the FT's chief Asia correspondent, will now be responsible for the online and print Asia-Pacific editions of the FT.

Lionel Barber, editor of the FT, said: "Our Asia edition is going from strength to strength, both in print and online. Victor is an incisive and compelling commentator on Asia business and politics and is the natural choice to lead our Asia edition."

Prior to moving to Hong Kong in 2003, Mallett was the FT's Paris correspondent. He has worked at the FT for 20 years, where his posts have included southern Africa correspondent from 1998 to 2001, South East Asia correspondent between 1992 and 1994, and Africa correspondent from 1986 to 1988.

Mallett said: "We have excellent teams of reporters across the globe who give our readers in the Asia-Pacific the highest quality of news, comment and analysis -- and our correspondents here in Asia have proved unbeatable in informing the world about business developments in the most dynamic economies of the 21st century."
