Mail Online leapfrogged Telegraph.co.uk and Guardian.co.uk to become the UK's most popular newspaper website last month.
According to May ABCe data, Mail Online attracted 18.7 million users, up 3.7% from the previous month. The figures will be welcomed by Associated Newspapers, which is currently setting up a specialised digital sales unit for Mail Online.
Telegraph Media Group digital general manager Mike Moore was buoyed by the newspaper's online growth of more than 150% year on year. In May, its ABCe stood at 18.4 million.
He said: "After the tremendous growth in the last couple of months, we have now consolidated the size of both our UK and global audience."
Guardian.co.uk's user base fell to 18.3 million visitors last month, from 18.6 million in April.
Elsewhere, Independent.co.uk posted its first set of ABCe results, which, at 6.5 million, comes some way behind its fellow broadsheets, with The Times' website attracting 15.8 million unique users in May.
Sun Online hit record traffic of 14.95 million unique users last month, a year-on-year increase of 66.1%. Meanwhile, Mirror Group Digital's ABCe results revealed a 12.9% increase from April to 4.83 million unique users last month.
