Magners ad banned by ASA

LONDON - A TV ad for Magners cider has been banned after it suggested that the drink would boost confidence and lead to the success of a social occasion.

The execution, which featured a man walking into a pub and a pint of Magners being poured, included a voice-over stating that the drink was ‘The perfect ice breaker' as the drinker picked up the pint and turned to talk to friends.

The Advertising Standards Authority's concluded that the voice-over, which also included the line  ‘Making sure the conversation flows'  implied that drinking Magners could help start a conversation in a social setting, thereby leading to the success of a social occasion.

Wm Magner, which owns the cider brand, said it believed the scene portrayed was ‘typical of any ad where the product was used in social setting and was not excitable in any way'.
