Madonna in mid-song tumble at Brit Awards thanks to stubborn Armani cape

Madonna inadvertently provided last night's most memorable performance at the Brit Awards ceremony, when she suffered a backwards tumble down some stairs as her dancers tried to remove her Armani cape.

The singer was in the early, minor key stages of performing her song, ‘Living For Love’, when a dancer tried to tug off her cape, but the fastener proved too stubborn and she was pulled backwards.

As a pre-recorded version of her vocals continued, she quickly recovered with as much dignity as she could muster, and went back up the stairs.

She later posted on Instagram and Twitter that "nothing can stop me and love really lifted me up", and blamed her fall on the cape being tied "too tight".

Elsewhere in yesterday’s ceremony, British singers Ed Sheeran and Sam Smith both won two awards.
