It will bring together music, films, TV, fashions and memorable fads of the decade along with web pages designed to reflect the style of the era. Features include the Rubik's Cube, lessons in dirty dancing, and fan pages on Mr T, the star of the 'A-Team', and Chevy Chase.
Users will be able to recommend content and web links to Lycos editors for inclusion on the channel. They will also be able to download their favourite nostalgic highlights and forward them on to friends, as well as rate them on a scale of one to five. The most popular reminders will be compiled into a top 10 list planned to be updated weekly.
Alex Kovach, managing director at Lycos UK & Ireland, said: "The popularity of events such as School Disco and 80s nights illustrate that people enjoy looking back over the years, often with rose-tinted glasses, and this gave us the idea for the 80s channel.
"The great thing about it will be the ability for our users to create the content themselves."
