Love Island breaks ITV2 overnights ratings record

ITV2's reality show Love Island pulled in an average of 2.9 million viewers for the launch of the fourth series, more than double that of last year's first episode.

Overnight figures show that the show was the highest rating show at 9pm on TV yesterday, peaking with 3.4 million viewers, and taking a 16.4% share of the total audience. A peak of 480,000 people also watched the simulcast live on ITV Hub, the on-demand platform.

Last night’s show also attracted more people than the Love Island finale in 2017, which had 2.6 million viewers, and a 12.5% share.

The launch episode last year was watched by 1.3 million people, with a share of 6.5%. Series two launched with 825,000 viewers and a 4.4% share.

After the success of the show last year ITV has launched a breakfast podcast called Love Island – The Morning After presented by Arielle Free and Kem Cetinay, the winners of last year’s show.

It is sponsored by Kellogg’s Corn Flakes following a partnership with Carat’s content and entertainment arm The Story Lab and ITV.
