The home of cricket, and its most famous stadium, is likely to undergo a complete revamp some time in the near future with figures of up to £400m being mentioned.

The "Nursery End" of the ground, which currently houses temporary structures used for corporate hospitality including the new and popular Players Lounge, will see vast event spaces created if the MCC can draw up an agreement with Rifkind Levy Partnership who own some of the land.

A larger museum and brasserie are also mooted.

But plans to rename the venue in the manner Newcastle United's home ground is now called Sportsdirect.com @ St James' Park are apparently not on the table.

"In response to comments in The Times, MCC wishes to point out that its cricket ground in St John's Wood is named after Thomas Lord, and the Club has no intention of the ground being named after anyone else," said the MCC in a statement.

The MCC did add that it "has not discussed the possibility that particular areas within Lord's might be re-named".

The iconic Media Centre, since its construction in 1999, has borne the name of a commercial sponsor.
