It is the first year that the category has been run and is part of a number of changes to the 53rd festival, to be held in June 2006. The new category will include areas of retail marketing, environmental design, in-store advertising and media.
"Promotions are one of the most important tools that can be used to forward the success of a brand, and as the advertising industry searches for new ways to market, promotions are clearly rising to the top. I'm looking forward to working with my jury to identify the best that this industry has to offer," Gold said.
Gold, who has more than 30 years of experience in the industry and has worked at agencies including DDB, Jack Levy & Associates, Frankel and TathamEuroRSCG's Sales Machine, has previously served as one of two US judges for the Cannes Lions Direct in 2005.
The 53rd International Advertising Festival will be held June 18-24 2006 in Cannes.
