LONDON - Guinness Premiership rugby club London Wasps has agreed a two-year deal with technology provider EMC as principle shirt sponsor.

London Wasps replace Magners shirt sponsrship deal with EMC

The deal is worth £1m over the duration of the sponsorship and builds on an existing relationship between the two parties.

EMC replaces the club's previous shirt sponsor Magners which announced in February that it would not renew its deal. Magner had been the club's principle sponsor for four years.

EMC, which has its UK headquarters in Brentford, Middlesex, has worldwide revenues of $15bn a year, employing 38,000 people across 60 countries.

Spencer Marlow, marketing director for UK & Ireland at EMC said the brand would use the association to boost brand awareness and connect with rugby supporters. 'The values and demographic of the sport are also very important. Rugby supporters are often business owners and senior managers', he added.

He said that he viewed the deal as a partnership with Wasps rather than a sponsorship. He said the company would aid Wasps in the development of their business network.

Wasps also announced today that its official charity for the next two seasons would be the Dallaglio Foundation, which was established by fomer Wasps, England and British & Irish Lions player Lawrence Dallaglio.

The Foundation logo will run on the back of the Wasps playing shirts and money raised for the charity will go to Cancer Research UK. Dallaglio established the foundation having lost his mother to cancer last December.
