Of all the thousands of words that have been written about changes in branding since the inception of the internet, the only ones that are actually true are these: now, you have to give something back. You have to be at least useful, at least relevant or at least entertaining in order to create a loyal audience of brand enthusiasts. In the presentation,
Contagious will be showcasing the most innovative and effective exercises in non-traditional marketing from around the world, and examining what makes them useful, relevant, or entertaining.

Tomato was founded in 1991 by Steve Baker, Dirk van Dooren, Karl Hyde, Richard Smith, Simon Taylor and Graham Wood as a collective of artists, designers, musicians and writers. Each one of the creatives involved is essentially independent, choosing to work and collaborate with the wider group on an individual project basis. Currently there are ten active members in the collective, and many others have played important roles during the ongoing development of tomato. In recent years, tomato has recorded successes with hosting workshops, publishing, exhibiting, live performances and public speaking, as well as working with clients in the areas of advertising, architecture, fashion, public installations, music, TV & film and graphic design.

Over the Air is a grass-roots mobile developer event that is completely unique in the mobile industry events calendar - it is free to attend, is hands-on in the style of hack-days and bar-camps, covers the cutting edge of current mobile development (as opposed to glossy future-speak or sales-pitches), and features bean bags, a big party and an overnight
sleep-over. There will also be a competition at the end of the event for the best categories of applications created during the event, with many great prizes. This year's programme is currently being put together, but will once again feature technical presentations, tutorials, workshops, and break-out rooms. Expect topics such as Open Source, Java, Symbian (Series-60), Mobile Web, Mobile Ajax, Android, Mobile Linux, iPhone, Windows Mobile, Blackberry, etc. The sessions will be 55 minutes in length and while the focus of the event is on mobile development, we are also accepting sessions on user experience and design and we are putting together some sessions on mobile art including (hopefully) a mobile film festival.

This Happened is a series of events focusing on the stories behind interaction design. Having ideas is easier than making them happen. This Happened delves into projects that exist today, how their concepts and production process can help inform future work. Interaction design companies are often too closed off to the outside. The event encourages people to be more open in their methods and ideas. The aim is to have a mix of established practitioners, commercial companies and students. This Happens encourages the perspectives from the other side of the fence, so will also be inviting curators and commissioners of work to give presentations.

In the run-up to Playful '09 at the end of October, we're chuffed to the rafters at being invited to London Digital Week. Eat Your Games is a one-hour chat session about digital distribution, the rise of indie development, and stable platforms with three of the UK's most interesting games companies. Jim McNiven is from Kerb Games - a web agency which develop viral games for brands, but which is now moving towards indie development as they create their own IP in the form of a football-themed browser-based MMO. Robin Lacey is part of a young company called Beatnik Games, which is developing Plain Sight, a multiplayer robo-action explosion fest that plays as great as it looks. Sean Murray from Hello Games, an indie company made up of ex-console developers (EA, Kuju) who are working on an incredibly exciting looking game that we're not allowed to say anything about yet. Eat Your Games is an opportunity to find out what digital distribution looks like from inside the industry, from developers who have made AAA, millions selling console games, independently developed hit projects, as well as online viral ad-games that reach audiences of millions.

Over 30 per cent of 15 to 30 year olds watch TV with the laptop open. Can TV formats take advantage of this new user behaviour? Will innovative TV producers and web developers seize this opportunity? Will it allow broadcasters to monetise their audiences of millions, one at a time? Or will two screen follow red button down the technology toilet? Join us on the evening of 24th September at Hoxton Hall, a beautiful Victorian theatre, where innovators in this nascent sector will deliver 10-minute presentations on their experiences. They'll give frank accounts of what has worked and what has failed.
